93 points " Hartford Family Wines - Zinfandel Tasting Notes This is the sixth vintage of our wildly popular Russian River Valley AVA Zinfandel. This old-vine Zinfandel provides alluring aromas of blackberry, sweet pipe tobacco, black pepper and anise, complemented by flavors reminiscent of fresh-baked blackberry pie with allspice, anise and caramel notes on the finish. Stunningly rich and concentrated, our 2004 Russian River Valley Zinfandel has incredible definition of fruit and sweet luscious tannins. Acclaim 93 Points - "This gorgeously rich effort reveals a Pinot Noir-like sensitivity along with a seductive, fragrant nose of black raspberries, cherries, spice box, pepper, and earth. In the mouth, it’s a flamboyant, seductive, expansive, full-bodied, savory wine with beautifully integrated acidity, wood, alcohol, and tannin. Drink this decadent Zin over the next 5-6 years." - Robert M. Parker Jr., The Wine Advocate, December 2005 Gold Medal - 2005 Sonoma County Harvest Fair Vineyard Character The Hartford Russian River Valley Zinfandel is a blend of old-vine, dry farmed and low yielding Zinfandel vineyards predominately from the Russian River Valley. These old vineyards (average vineyard age is about 75 years) offer an impressive articulation of this idiosyncratic varietal. Zinfandel grown in the Russian River Valley is distinctive due to this regions cool maritime influence. Bright, natural acidity and vibrant fruit aromas and flavors are a result of typically cool fog-laden nights and warm days. These dry-farmed vineyards planted on low-fertility soils consistantly produce wines of exceptional density, and legendary extract. The 2003 Hartford Russian River Valley Zinfandel is a wine with beautiful depth of flavor and intensity. " Best -2011

4 stars "bold aromas of red berries on the nose, and an intense and full-bodied palate, followed by a very long finish. Seemed very young and may benefit from a couple more years in the bottle."
