" Monroe, Oregon does not exactly bring to mind some of the world's finest Pinot Noir-based wine. And one visit to this far-flung locale south of Corvallis, in the shadow of Green Peak Mountain surrounded by hills and grass fields as far as the eye can see, and you know you're not in Beaune. This tiny winery is entirely family run (operated by Craig and Claudia Broadley, their son Morgan and his wife Jessica) and produces about 3,200 cases of Pinot Noir yearly. As might be expected for such a down-home place, everything is done by hand. The style emphasizes fruit, though according to Craig, "We're very aggressive with the wine and use a lot of wood-all French oak." This '02 estate Pinot has vanilla tones, it's true. And lots of dark, silky fruit."
