"In 1947, Benoit Tarlants grandfather planted this slightly less than one-acre plot of Meunier vines called the Alle des Pommiers. These shy baring old vines, planted on a northeast-facing slope on the Tarlants property in Oeuilly yielded just enough fruit in 1999 to fill their press once. The results are magnificent; a gorgeous, golden Champagne with a bountiful nose of ripe pears, white flowers and even a touch of cured sweet ham. This incredible Champagne is very full bodied without being fat and is a tribute to the Tarlant family's rigorous approach. The wine is 100% barrel fermented in old oak without malolactic fermentation and has been given five years on the lees to mature. It is great to drink now, and is made entirely out of the 1999 vintage although not labled as such and should last many, many years if properly cellared. -Gary Westby, K&L "

4 stars "Straw golden color and a yeasty nose showing apple cider flavors. On the palate, dry, vivacious, slightly creamy, with a distinctive pear à l'eau de vie aftertaste. A distinctive Champagne that will nicely complement any dish that calls for a light and fruity wine."
