4 stars "Attractive nose with fresh cherry aromas. more earthy on the palate than the Pelerin and less sweet. This is a style that I usually prefer, but today, the Pelerin worked better with the Thanksgiving dinner."

"The fruit comes from the Del Rio Ranch in Sonoma, south of Healdsburg.  This was a vineyard site planted by Louis Martini in the 1960s. The grapes are of the Pommard clone of Pinot Noir and Lipp did a cold soak of about 4 days on the skins prior to fermentation.  Some 25% whole clusters were included.  Wild yeast and malolactic in barrel (some people claim this fixes the color better).  One third of the barrels, French oak, were new, contributing a nice hint of sweetness on the nose and palate.  The wine was matured for 10 months in oak before bottling and Lipp bottled all of 182 cases.  Yes...this is a small production wine. The nose displays a lovely Pinot fruit, reminiscent of sweet raspberry and cherry.  The wood is noticeable, but not dominating.  We find this to be rather supple and soft on the palate, the tannins being rather silky in texture.  It may age nicely, but we view this as a wine for rather immediate consumption.  Open your bottle sometime in the next year, two or three, won't you?
