3 stars "dark color, subdued nose, oaky flavors on the palate. Not the fresh fruity aromas and the liveliness that I was expecting from a wine of this region."

"Ignaz Niedrist is one of the best artisanal producers in the Alto Adige, an under-appreciated region in north eastern Italy (just south of Austria). He makes more than one outstanding white wine, but for reds there is only this: whether you call it Südtiroler blauburgunder or Alto Adige Pinot Nero, the wine is fantastic. Like a cool mountain lake, with fine acidity and focus and layers of cool red fruits. Chill it slightly and serve with wild mushroom pasta dishes or trout."
