"Color: dark; Nose: complex; Aromas: spicy; Acidity: lively; Sweetness: dry; Body: full-bodied; Finish: persistent; Overall: rich; Enjoyed when had at a tasting. Bought a couple of bottles as gifts, and kept one for ourselves. A little disappointed with what first tasted, last year. Will try another vintage in the future. But, it will need to be outstanding in order to purchase."

"Firm tannins dominate the texture and give this young wine an austere edge, with only glimpses of wild berry, currant and spice. On the finish the tannins return to center stage. Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2009. 2,000 cases made. (JL)"

"The 2003 Optimus Estate, a blend of 64% Syrah, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 3% Petit Verdot, exhibits a dense ruby/purple color as well as complex aromas of blueberries, graphite, sweet cherries, spice box, and earth. Full-bodied, rich, and Bordeaux-like, with even greater texture and opulence in addition to moderately high tannin, it will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring, and should last for 15. This is a brilliant wine from a Frenchman who has captured the magic of Paso Robles.
