"The 2008 Sauvignon Ronco delle Mele is a very beautiful version of this wine, one of the more renowned Sauvignons in Italy. Well-articulated aromatics meld into crisp green apples, mint, sage and flowers. The perfumed finish is long and refined. Why can’t Venica’s other wines be similarly outstanding? Anticipated maturity: 2009-2012.
This year I tasted the entire production from Venica, but only a few wines scored above The Wine Advocate’s 85-point threshold for inclusion in the print edition. Quite frankly, too many wines came across as sterile and devoid of anything resembling character, something that is especially disappointing considering the reputation this estate enjoys."
