"There's a wild berry flavor at the center of this wine, bringing to mind mulberries and tart raspberries as well as something darker, like spiced pomegranate. That fruit complexity lasts through the dark mineral tannin, driven on by acidity: After all the mouth-puckering grip, the essence of fruit is still there. This is a substantial wine with staying power, and a great buy. W&S Always a great value, the 2001 Barbaresco is very floral and intense on the nose, with notes of anise, eucalyptus, and coffee beans. It shows plenty of clean, focused, sweet fruit on a medium-bodied frame. Although this estate’s wines have proven that they can age quite well, I typically prefer them on the younger side, while the fruit is still present. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2016. WA"
