"Firehouse Red" 12/750ml
31% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Syrah, 16% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc, 7% Malbec, 3% Sangiovese, 1% Petit Verdot, 1% Carmenere.
The wine is on 50% new oak, mostly French and American oak barrels with a compliment of Hungarian oak barrels for 16 months.
Crushed gently and dropped by gravity into small 1.5 ton bins, cold soaked a minimum of 48 hours, then inoculated with a variety of yeasts, hand-punched and pressed directly to barrel, where the wine finishes both primary and secondary fermentation.
Vintage: The arrival of hot conditions in late spring and early summer was balanced out by cooler temperatures closer to maturity which helped maintain high natural acidity levels that balanced flavors for extended hang time.
Tasting notes: Tastes like really, really good red wine. Which varietal is lending which notes? Who cares? Rounded, lush, layered and lovely, the ultimate food wine, pairing well with everything from pasta and pizza to grilled meat and roasted chicken. Bright raspberry, currant, mocha, a touch of pepper spice, soft tannins and a lingering finish… year in and year out, it’s like partying with an old friend.
"Supple and open-textured, brimming with gorgeous plum and currant character that lingers enticingly on the deftly balanced finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Sangiovese, Petit Verdot and Carmenère. Drink now through 2013. 15,000 cases made."
