Tasting Notes:
tasted: December 23, 2004 , Catherine Granger
4 stars "Spicy on the nose. Full-bodied and well-balanced. Taste different than a Chateauneuf-du-Pape but still delicious."
rated: August 1, 2003 , Robert Parker
92 points "The superb 2000 Esprit de Beaucastel is a blend of 35% Mourvedre, 26% Syrah, 25% Grenache, and 14% Counoise. It reveals complex characteristics of cloves, spice box, cinnamon, and black fruits in a full-bodied, Chateauneuf du Pape-like style. Dense and chewy, with tremendous intensity as well as richness, it should age well for 10-12 years, possibly longer." Best 2004-2013
rated: September 6, 2004 , K&L Wine Merchants
"The Esprit de Beaucastel comes from an organically farmed vineyard with chalky clay soils of the same geologic origin as those in Châteauneuf-du-Pape with bud cuttings from the famed vines of Château de Beaucastel. A true Cal-Rhône!"
