"quiet drink after the movies. Inoteca and Tre were packed. The streets of the Lower East Side were packed on this Saturday night with entranced tourists, gritty locals, and adorned suburbanites. It was quite a scene.
We headed uptown accross Houston and found a quiet little wine and coffee bar called The Tasting Room. We tasted a few wines. This one we liked alot.
Montinore Estate is a nurtured by two generations of the Marchesi family in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. They combine old-world wine-making learned from their grandfather and great-grandfather Carlo Marchesi.
They produce a full range of Northern Italian style wines. This Pinot Gris reflects that influence. Pinot Gris and Pinot Grigio are the same grape. Pinot Gris is usually found in France where Pinot Grigio is the name used in Italy. I have found that Pinot Gris wines usually have a deeper, fuller, more interesting flavors.
Josh Raynolds, of Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, gave this wine an rating of 87 in April of 2008 . HE described the wine like this "Peach-skin color. Smoky melon and apricot on the nose, with a slow-building musky yellow plum quality. Fleshy pit fruit flavors coat the palate and become more lively with air, picking up lime and exotic cured meat qualities. A touch warm on the finish but this possesses easy appeal and would be good with full-flavored foods."
