96 points "Notes of white currants, lemon butter, poached pear, as well as touches of honey and crushed rock are all present in the complex aromatics of the light greenish/gold-colored 2007 Chardonnay Estate. A beautiful, full-bodied, textured mouthfeel with great freshness and brilliant purity is evidence of another stunner from this iconic source of high-elevation California Chardonnay. This is probably my favorite vintage over the last decade and has at least 10 years of aging potential. " Best 2011-2021

96 points "Simply delicious, a rich, buttery style, delivering ripe, vivid and delicate peach, pear and honeydew melon fruit that's complex, concentrated and full-bodied Offers excellent length and depth. Creamy oak adds a touch of smoke and vanilla. The texture is silky. Drink now through 2016. 2,387 cases made. –JL "

96 points "Mount Eden's 2011 Chardonnay is simply magnificent. Intense and tightly-coiled from the very first taste, the 2011 pulsates with energy, texture and pure class. Bright citrus, lemon oil, flowers and crushed rocks are all vivid in the glass, but it is the wine's exceptional balance that stands out most. The long, vibrant finish is a thing of beauty. In 2011, winemaker Jeffrey Patterson did not make a Reserve, instead all of the juice went into the straight Chardonnay. Readers who want to understand why the Santa Cruz Mountains is one of the world's great terroirs for Chardonnay should start here. Quite simply, the 2011 Chardonnay is a, reference-point for California. The only question is how long it will take to come around. Readers will find plenty to get excited about in these new releases from Mount Eden. In particular, the 2011 Chardonnay is outrageously beautiful. Proprietor Jeffrey Patterson has been making reference point wines for decades, yet for some reason Mount Eden flies under the radar. That won't always be the case. In top vintages, these are among the most compelling wines in California. Patterson takes a pretty minimalist approach in the cellar. The wines are all done with native yeasts and are bottled unfined and unfiltered...By comparison, 2011 also saw a late bud-break, but ill-timed harvest just as the Chardonnay and Pinot were in bloom lowered yields significantly.
