" Greg Condes' favorite. 89(+?) points according to Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright, moderately saturated red. Highly aromatic, spicy aromas of black cherry, blackcurrant and bitter chocolate. Juicy, penetrating and firm-edged, with intense cassis and mineral flavors. Very tightly wound pinot, in need of aeration. But this shows lovely intensity and length and may ultimately merit a 90+ rating. "The older, virused vineyards give less sugar," noted Davis. "We can get ripe enough tannins without excess alcohol." Half of the 2001 crop here was lost due to spring frost, with the yield ultimately less than a ton and a quarter per acre. The result is perhaps the best vintage to date for this label." (May/June/03)"
