" This vineyard is right next to Mazoyeres Chambertin, Grand Cru. And, in a note of irony, it is rated as a higher quality vineyard on the older maps than the adjacent piece of Grand Cru. Yet, it is still just a village vineyard, since no one with real political clout owned it when the status was re-determined in the 1980s. Well, those in the know are aware of how good this vineyard is, even if it is not Premier Cru. The wine shows much more structure than the Marsannays, with finer and more elegant fruit. There is a lot of tannin here, but the fruit keeps coming back to remind you that there is plenty here to resolve in a very nice way in your cellar. (Keith Wollenberg, K&L Burgundy Buyer, 03/04) It got 89-92 Points from Tanzer, who wrote: "Bright medium-deep ruby. Blackberry, violet and smoked meat on the nose, with a perfumed, rather feral quality. Concentrated, sappy and firm, with fruit-driven flavors of dark berry, black cherry and spice. Showcases the vibrancy of the vintage. Finishes brisk and fresh, with complex notes of violet, bitter chocolate, black licorice and spicy, smoky oak." (International Wine Cellar, 03/03)"
