"Inky ruby. Deep, powerful and exotic on the nose, with intense cola, licorice, cherry liqueur and oak spice aromas; this smells like a serious, big-bucks wine. Suave, silky and lush, the cherry and dark berry flavors showing great intensity and sweetness and given focus and support by fine-grained tannins. "The 2003 Falset Old-Vines is composed of 85% Garnacha and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 12 months in 50% new French oak. Purple-colored, it offers an attractive perfume of scorched earth, toast, spice box, and kirsch liqueur. Mouth-filling, with very good concentration and moderate tannin, the wine is a bit compact in its finish, likely due to the extreme heat of the vintage. A couple of years in bottle may round this wine out. It should drink well through 2013.
