" This domaine of 13 hectares is located in the valley of Agly, about 30 kilometers northwest of Perpignan on primarily shallow schistous soils. It was created in February 2001 by 23 year old Marjorie Gallet, who was exposed to wine at an early age (she grew up near Cote Rotie). Gallet earned her degree at Montpellier and did apprenticeships with Yves Cuilleron and Pierre Gaillard (Northern Rhone) and Domaine Gauby in the Roussillon. Gallet's 2004 Vieilles Vignes is composed of 40% Carignan, 40% Grenache Noir, and 20% Syrah. The average vine age for this cuvee is around 70 years old! The vineyards are worked manually and no chemicals are used. the grapes are harvested by hand and then pressed into a wooden vertical basket press. This wine is rich and deeper than its little sister, an exhibits a phenomenal pulverized rock kind of minerality on the finish. However it too retains a cool elegance which seems to be a recurring theme with Marjorie's wines! This old vine cuvee is stellar example of the high price-quality ratio coming out of the Languedoc-Roussillon these days. K&L is proud to offer the wines from this young vigneron whom we believe is a superstar in the making."
