"Color: dark; Nose: intense; Aromas: dried fruit; Acidity: supple; Sweetness: dry; Body: tannic; Finish: persistent; Overall: rich; This was an awesome Chat-Neuf. A bit much for several of the courses we ate, but wonderful nonetheless. The palate is full of sweet, rich cassis and a lengthy tannic grip. I certainly believe that this could have laid down for a few more years and been even more impressive. Alas..."

"Chante Cigales 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes is a superb effort for the vintage. Tasting like liquid earth, with a classic peppery, garrigue characteristic intermixed with ripe plum, black cherry, and kirsch liqueur fruit, it exhibits a full-bodied, voluptuous palate, a broad mouthfeel, and layers of concentration as well as intensity. This big, spicy, fragrant Chateauneuf also possesses moderate tannin. Drink it over the next 10-12 years."
