"Domaine Baur produces wine from 12 hectares (30 acres) of vines of which 3 hectares are in the Grand Cru Eichberg and Pfersigberg. The terroir is composed mainly of clay and old limestone and marl which give the wines of Domain Baur a rich creaminess and depth of flavor as well as an interesting complexity in both the aromas and flavors. The Eichberg Grand Cru faces southeast and benefits from the warm & dry microclimate generated by its location at the base of the Vosges Mountains. The soils are mainly limestone conglomerates and marls with lots of broken sandstone mixed with clay and sand and small stones. Only Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer are permitted in this Grand Cru. Marked by a bouquet of floral aromas, mixed with nuances of citrus and exotic fruits, this wine has a medium to full body with the fruit filling the mid-palate, then on to a long finish. This is classic Alsatian Riesling at its best with an intensity and complexity of fruit, acidity and minerality in a dry expression the grape so prized from this renowned region. Predisposed to long ageing, this wine can cellar well for 10 years or more yet shows great character even now." Best 2005-2015
