"Color: dark; Aromas: spicy, black berry; Sweetness: dry; Finish: very persistent; In its prime. We had it with a meal, but it was almost too good to pair; ready for individual enjoyment. Spicy with black-berry fruit. Good color, complex nose, full-body, and wonderful finish. "

"Early 'Cape claret' blend and still a benchmark. 2003 bears new livery and release aptly celebrates van Helden's centenary on Stellenbosch estate. Fantastic promise signalled by sample nin previous edition fully delivered by final version; sculpted huckleberry/blackcurrent fruits line up behind sweetly ripe, impossibly fine tannins. Now, more texture than taste, but flavour should fill out and be sensational around 2010."
