92 points "Usually the finest [Domaine du Père Pape] cuvée is the Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Crau de Ma Mère, and the 2009 again reveals more density and dimensions than its siblings. A blend of 80 percent Grenache, 10 percent Syrah and 10 percent Mourvèdre from 100-plus-year-old vines, aged in foudre (Grenache) and new oak barrels (Mourvèdre), this may be the finest wine Père Pape has yet produced. A deep, full-bodied, broadly textured, explosively fruity effort, it boasts a deep ruby/purple color as well as abundant aromas of licorice, incense, camphor, blackberries and black cherries, a voluptuous texture, a deep, concentrated, multilayered mouthfeel and a stunning finish. The tannins are silky, the acidity is low, and the pleasure meter is extremely high. This cuvée should drink well for 10 to 15 years. Françoise Roumieux and her sister, Béatrice Mayard, are two of the many women who are in positions of power managing Châteauneuf-du-Pape estates (there are probably more in this appellation than in any other in France). They did not present the two cuvées of 2008s I tasted last year, but their 2009s are extremely strong efforts. This is a relatively large estate of over 100 acres with at least 20 parcels spread throughout the appellation. One of the top sites is a huge (20-acre) parcel situated in the heart of La Crau. All three 2009s have the potential to turn out as well as the 2007s, the finest vintage yet produced in terms of high quality." Best 2015-2024

"Loosely knit, with sous bois and licorice root notes holding the upper hand on black cherry and plum fruit. Comes together in the glass, with a nice silky finish, though it's not as dense as the best '01s. Drink now through 2012. 2,000 cases made. –JM (WS-89)" Best -2012
