"Humboldt County is better known for a certain illegal mood-altering substance that it is for fine wine. But there are a few wineries of note out here; the most preeminent is Whitethorn. The Pinots made here are sourced from some of the finest (and most sought after i.e. expensive) in all of California, and are generally snapped up by restaurants like Gary Danko, Auberge du Soleil and the French Laundry. Tasha McKee is the woman behind this fantastic red. We suggest you introduce yourself to her style (Burgundian with some California heft) before this small-production Pinot sells out.
