"The 2006 Les Eres Vinya Velles is composed of 55% Carinena old vines, 30% Garnacha old vines, and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. It was aged in new French oak for 18 months. Also purple/black in color, it displays a fragrant, alluring perfume of pain grille, mineral, licorice, espresso, blackberry, and blueberry. Thick, layered, and full-bodied on the palate, it is loaded with savory fruit, packs serious power, and has exceptional length. Several years of additional cellaring should find it a bit more civilized. Wine Enthusiast 93pts - Pungent up front, with dry bayberry, leather, jam notes and schisty minerality. The palate is all about structure, snappy acids, sinewy tannins and lively, full-force red-fruit and plum flavors. Like in the past, this is a top-notch Priorato that holds its form through the acid-driven finish. Best from 2011–2015. Steven Tanzer 91+pts - 55% carinena, 30% garnacha and 15% cabernet sauvignon; malo and 18 months aging in new Allier casks. Vivid ruby. An intense, mineral-accented bouquet offers redcurrant, cherry and smoky herbs, with a subtle floral quality in the background. Focused, racy red fruit flavors are underscored by zesty minerality and pick up a deeper note of cassis with air. The mineral quality lingers on a juicy, very long finish, which also features a note of candied licorice. Give this some air or a couple of more years in the cellar."
