"Marques de Grinon's estate, Dominio de Valdepusa, is considered one of Spain's vinous gems. He makes some amazing and quite unique wines, like a Syrah and a Petit Verdot under the Marques label. The winery is state-of-the art, to the extent that they use technology to monitor each individual vine to determine the frequency and quantity of irrigation! Lucky for us, the Marques has come out with a wine of his usual high standards, but at a much lower price point! Marques de Grinon's first wine to use Graciano, an indigenous Spanish grape, Caliza (which means limestone in Spanish) is a glorious blend of 2/3rds Syrah and 1/3 Graciano. Black fruit flavors are prominent in this substantial wine, but do not overwhelm attractive elements of spice and earth. What impressed me most about this wine was not just the amazingly vivid flavors, but more the TEXTURE of the wine - it is SO supple and lush. Fans of CA Zinz and Syrah chould check this one out! MG"
