"Gooseberries do not have much of a following here in the U.S., and that may very well be due to the fact that it’s darn difficult to find such a berry on the shelves of our local grocery stores and produce stands. Luckily, one can approximate the pleasantly tart, very fresh, and sophisticatedly astringent flavor of these allusive berries by purchasing this very well made Quincy (pronounced: can-see). Like its neighbor, Sancerre, this appellation uses 100% sauvignon blanc, and in the classic 2004 vintage, the wines are very crisp and firm with grapefruit notes and lots of…yep, gooseberries! Try with cold cracked shellfish or goat cheese dusted with fresh herbs. "
